Why is my Shirt Blue? The Blue Shirt “Controversy.” :)

This is one blog I never thought I would need to write and although this might be “much ado about nothing,” I suppose it is nice to write a blog that is not vital to anyone’s health and that confirms that someone is actually watching my shows.  When I first went on TV almost 20 years ago, my primary concern wasn’t the color of my shirt, but whether fear would prevent my mouth from working and therefore prevent me from talking on national TV.  My second concern was, even if I managed to talk, would anyone tune-in to watch my shows?  Fortunately, I managed to speak on live TV and folks must be watching my shows or no one would comment on my shirt color.  It is hard to believe that this discussion about my blue shirts has gone on for almost two decades, but recently, with the help of the Internet, it has only increased.  Hopefully today’s blog will put the matter to rest.  Amid all the major issues in the world, it is good that this controversy is of no consequence beyond hopefully causing a few smiles.  This blog should answer all related questions since it was written by me and that would make it a pretty reliable source of information regarding my choice of clothing.

I have always heard and constantly read that the reason I wear blue shirts is because my eyes are blue.  That is false.  Well, it is true that my eyes are blue (no tinted contacts), but that has nothing to do with my choice of shirt color. I have never sought to make my eyes look bluer with blue shirts.  Does that even really work?  Anyway, if my eyes were brown, I would still be wearing blue shirts, since my choice of blue shirts comes from a much simpler source and one that, if you know me, you will understand.  Remember, I am a science guy and research is what helps me make decisions.  So, when I was scared to death about going on national television a couple of decades ago and I had no idea what to wear, what do you think I did?  Research!  I read articles about newscasters, spoke to folks who go on television and I basically did my homework to determine what would be the best color(s) for television.  I even went “scientific” and researched what colors are best reproduced given the optical characteristics of television cameras, television sets and their interactions with the human eye.  All of this research from a multitude of different sources, as well as simple observation of TV newscasters, talk show hosts, etc., led me to one and only one conclusion:  Blue.  White, very light colors, black, brown, dark colors in general and most detailed prints or patterns do not reproduce well on TV.  Blue is where TV always excels and where our eyes ability to perceive excel as well.  So, given that I was about to go on TV, I chose not to go against the grain and I followed precisely what the science and the experience of others indicated as my one and only choice to appear my best on TV – Blue.  Mind you, I am not Brad Pitt or George Clooney, so I need all the help I can get when you’re watching my shows. Therefore I have chosen Blue pretty consistently over the years although during most visits at HSN the color, hue and intensity of the Blue can change dramatically.  And sometimes, if I go way outside the box and get truly wild, I throw in a green, violet or turquoise shirt.  Smile  Of course, when I do so, I hear the comments, but please rest assured that my blue shirts are merely chosen to help the broadcast be as visually pleasing as possible, so as not to detract from the important information I share.

By the way, I have no “wardrobe consultants,” no personal shopper, and HSN does not plan my wardrobe.  I personally shop for all the shirts and ties you see. They are neither custom-made nor custom-designed.  They are the same brands that you would purchase straight off the rack at normal department stores or at bargain prices at the factory outlets here in Las Vegas.  The sum total of my wardrobe consultation team is when my Goddaughter, niece, mother or others tell me, “that shirt or tie looks…great, terrible, etc!”  I am sorry to be somewhat disappointingly normal in that regard.  Smile

I hope this helped…or at least made you laugh.

See you soon.  Best of Health!

Andrew

  1. Oh, how funny…..I have wondered myself why you always wore blue. The light green color is nice as well. I look forward to your shows coming up and the blog of your upcoming Today Specials?? Keep up the good work Andrew and yes you did bring some laughs…. 🙂

  2. hahahahaha too funny! Guess we better start watching how we talk about you over there, clearly you’re reading what we’re saying. 🙂

  3. Andrew, you are better than Brad or George. I love your blue shirts but have always wondered about them also. Thank you for solving this "mystery" for us. And yes, we are ALL watching!!! (and buying)

  4. I agree with Lainie—you are better than Brad or George cuz you care about people’s most important asset–their health!
Also, you are too funny….love those blue shirts and your animal family. Take care.

  5. Hello Andrew – I have been watching you for years and finally I purchased the Women’s Complete and the Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins on flex pay which is very affordable for me. I am 61 years young and believe it or not, my eyelashes have gotten longer and my hair which was once thinning is now thick as it was before. I feel like I have a lot more energy since taking your vitamins which has only been a couple of months. I enjoy watching you and listening to you. I have learned a lot from you about health. Thanks and keep up the good work that you are doing. Sis Paula

  6. I assumed blue was your favorite color…it’s a wonderful color and George and Brad have nothing on you, nothing! I love you and your products and watch every time you are on…I always learn something new…sometimes after listening I have questions then promptly forget what they are! Your products are the best and if I ever think of my questions I’ll try to remember to write….never stop your work, you are loved! Judy

  7. I always wondered why you always wore a blue shirt. I started to make sure that I would watch every time to see if you had a blue shirt on again. I had made it up in my mind that there was obviously a reason, but over the years, I assumed it was just your favorite color or something. Then I thought maybe it was just that it was the easiest thing for you to grab to pack to go to HSN studios… You have great products… we all appreciate the time and effort you put into your brand. But I am embarrassed to admit that the shirt "controversy" was like a total mystery for me and I am glad it is now solved!!

  8. LOL!!! You look good in blue. I don’t know why people make a big deal over what color shirt you wear. I love blue too. I wear it all the time. I look forward to seeing your blue shirt this weekend. ?

  9. Andrew,
You gave me a much needed dose of humor, and laughing so hard now. Thanks for this blog. You do look great in your blues shirt, and I think it is hysterical you have addressed this in one of your blogs. So funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!I like a good sense of humor, and not always all business.
Thank you for the best laugh of the night, still smiling! 🙂

  10. I, too, have wondered why the blue shirts. I enjoyed reading this … made me laugh! I do like you in blue, it suits (no pun intended) you well and does work with your eyes. Thanks for sharing a "lighter side" of you! Thank you, too, Andrew for keeping me so healthy for the past 20 years!! GOD BLESS!! I watch you every time you’re on HSN!

  12. Thank you for taking the time to clear up the "mystery of the blue shirt." I read all the comments on HSN regarding this & I was just amazed someone would start this thread. Now I read that it has been going on for 20 years! I’ve been watching you for the entire 14 years on HSN. I once asked a customer service rep if you were as nice in person as you were on the air. He told me "Oh yes, everyone really likes him . . . he’s a good guy." That’s all I needed to know. Great vitamins, good person, and looks good in blue shirts on TV. I agree with the others, George & Brad should look so good! Your vitamins & lifestyle speak for themselves. You look so much younger than your biological age. Thank you for the smiles from this blog & oh yes, by the way, the . . . from the customer service rep was: "The women here just love him!"

  20. Given the choice to go out to lunch with Brad, George or Andrew, I would pick YOU! You, by far are the most interesting. Thank you for using your God given talents to help the world be a healthier place. Keep up the good work!

  21. Loved this blog post! I live right down the street from your facility in Henderson, NV. I have often had the hope that one day I will run into you shopping for blue shirts at our local Macy’s Store in the Galleria Mall! 🙂 That would be a treat and I could thank you for my families bettered health because of you and your products. 🙂

  22. I never paid much atention to the color of your shirt, although I guess I was aware of it on some level. I do listen to what you say, though, and the info you share on your products and appreciate the education I am getting. My teenage daughter swears by your HSN (hair, skin and nails, not the network..lol) and swears it makes her hair longer and stronger…hope you have a TS on it soon as she is bugging me to stock up lest she (<gasp>) run out… Also, would love to see you come out with a product for my dog (she has Cushings) so I could treat her naturally…
    Thanks, Andrew…

  23. LOL! Thanks for sharing!
I figured it was because blue looks good on TV (and also because it makes your blue eyes pop 😉
Whatever the reason, it’s a nice trademark look to go with your trademark great products!

  24. I’ve often wondered about your blue shirts, too. Especially since I work in TV, and it’s a well-known fact that blue is the LAST color one should wear if you’re going to be up against a chromakey wall, because you will disappear =)
Hope you will branch out a bit and wear more lavender, green, pink (yes, pink!), and yellow shirts!

  25. Andrew, you amaze me with your knowledge. Thank you for pouring out your wealth of information and making us understand it.
    Susan

  26. Dear Andrew, not really curious about your shirt color being blue though it does highlight your eye color . It is your voice I find so comforting and knowledgeable! I would be willing to listen to your voice even if you were just reading the phone book. It is a voice blessed with understanding and wisdom—and compassion and it is truly soothing. After so many hours and so many years it must be true that what you see if what you get. Great products and the information you give us is appreciated. Thank you .

  34. Andrew, I love your shirts. In fact, anything you would put on would look good on you. I have seen you in different pastel colors, but never paid much attention until now that you mentioned it. I also love your vitamins and the knowledge you have. Thank you for the best vitamins in the world.

  35. This is why I keep watching you time and time again. You are so honest and trust worthy. You didn’t have to tell us why you choose to wear blue shirts, what business of ours is it. But like your products you are honest and give us the best of the best and you don’t charge an arm and a leg for it. Andrew you have always kept my attention. I learn so much from you. I promote your product all the time because I believe in it because you believe in it. Please never stop doing what you do!! I would not be taking the vitamins I do if it wasn’t for you 🙂 Oh, and to comment on the Brad Pitt and George Clooney thing you have them beat hands down!!!

  36. I so agree with the comments that Andrew is better than Brad Pitt or George Clooney. No comparison! Hysterical Blog!He has the looks, he has the stuff (supplements) so what more do you need? Nada for me! lol 🙂

  37. Andrew, You are a testimony to your vitamins. Healthy and happy.. Thanks for the wonderful products and all the research you do to keep those products top of the industry. Trust is a wonderful thing to have and your vitamins can be trusted to have in them what they say they do. I take them with complete confidence and have discarded the ones from China or unknown locations with unknown ingredients.
Thanks very much for your work.
And wear that blue shirt! Or any color YOU choose! Freedom of choice is a wonderful thing even in shirt colors… 🙂

  38. Andrew, love your vitamins and wouldn’t be without them. And, love to watch your shows because I’ve learned so much. Keep up the good work…..and ignore the people who are way too concerned about your shirt color….they, IMHO, need to get a life!

  39. With the wonderful quality of your products, I could not care less what you wear. You could wear a clown outfit and I would still watch and buy your wonderful products!!! Happy Anniversary!

  40. That’s cute! I never even thought about the shirts always being blue.
Thanks for the great products Andrew and your continued dedication.

  41. ANDREW, YOUR VITAMINS ARE SO, OVER THE TOP, YOU COULD SELL THEM WEARING ANYTHING, OR NOTHING AT ALL. I AM A PERFORMER, SINGER/DANCER. I AVERAGE 3 SHOWS A WEEK. I AM 66 YEARS YOUNG AN HAVE THE ENERGY AND BODY TO SING AND DANCE FOR HOURS ON END BECAUSE OF YOU AND THE INTEGRITY YOU PUT INTO YOUR PRODUCTS. BLESS YOU, WHETHER IN BLUE OR NOT. ODEY
P.S. WAITING AND HOPING YOU WILL FIND ‘SILVER TEA’ AGAIN.

  42. With your eyes, you should never consider anything but blue! And, yes, it does work :)! I’m just glad it the "contraversy" didn’t relate to your political leanings, one way or the other. How refreshing!
p.s. I just wish you could develop a supplement to make my grey eyes blue like yours!

  43. Andrew, i loved this blog about your blue shirts.. altho i wondered about your blue shirts also, i always feel you look very handsome and professional in them.. and the color is perfect.. dont change it. More importantly, thank you for all you do for our health! We couldnt have a better advocate.

  44. Andrew:
I just assumed all the times I’ve watched you over the years that blue was your favorite color, so you continued to wear it on the air, like it was a lucky thing for you. Don’t ever stop. You look great in that color. This is such a non-controversy. Keep up the great work you do, Andrew! 🙂

  45. That was hysterical! I thought it was only me that noticed your blue shirts. Of course I always thought it was because of your blue eyes. It’s even a running joke between my husband and myself…."oh.:he’s wearing another blue shirt!" Switch it up and wear violet. Regardless of the shirt and the all blue backgrounds….the information is soooooo appreciated! We have tons of your vitamins. We always air and listen when you are on and we always learn something. Thanks Andrew!

  46. Why did you choose HSN? I have to say its a place I dont have much trust in so it was hard for me to trust your products at first. I have tried them and can not find one single bad thing to say about them. I have reordered and plan to contiue to buy them. Keep up the good work and keep finding new products to help us with our health. BTW I am a breast cancer patient. Please help me with vitamins to help me stay healthy.

  47. Andrew,I love you in the Blue shirts, they show up good on TV.I have been with you for years and seen you in different colors,I would tell my Hubby,I wish he would wear his Blue ones all the time.Makes you look like the smart man you are!Love your products.Keep up the good work and wear what you are comfortable in,that is your right. You were funny about it.

  48. Andrew,
You should wear pink today for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and your Women’s Wellness today’s special. Pink looks great on everyone!

  49. Andrew, please keep wearing the blue shirts!
I will buy no matter what color you wear. The blue shirts are YOU!
I love your sense of humor.

  50. Hi Andrew,
I needed a good laugh today! You look great in blue, but also like when you wear green & lavender! I love to watch your shows, they are so educational, inspiring and love your passion for your products and our well being! I started using your ww about 13 yrs. ago when I was going through p. menapause and didn’t know it! Then started using your joint support, which has been like magic for my joints! Now I think I take every supplement you make including your secure, which I love and won’t be without it. I have turned so many people & family members onto your products and they all thank me for it. One of my sisters especially likes your HH. She called me before going on a month vacation upset because she didn’t have any to take with her and knows that I always have a spare bottle, so I gave it to her. Mind you when I first told her about it she rolled her eyes and said another one of your magic supplements, now she can’t live without it!
Andrew will you every make your meal replacement bars again! I use to love them especially the lemon and they were so convenient to carry.
Keep up the good work Andrew you have helped me enjoy life that much more! May you alwys have many blessings and continued success!
    Best Regard, Maria

  51. Blue… pink… purple or green… you are a hottie in my book Andrew! I have taken tons of your vitamins and supplements for years – but it’s NOT because of your blue shirts!

  52. Hi Andrew,
My mom and I were just commented last night on your customary blue shirts. I had told her you wear them because they look best on tv but I wish you would wear more vibrant colors. Today, Oct 8th, I saw you on HSN in a purple shirt. Fabulous choice, keep that one in your on-air wardrobe. I’ve been using your products for almost 20 years and think they are the best around. Keep up the good work.

  53. Hi Andrew: I love you be you in red – green – yellow or blue. I always look forward to your visits to HSN and yes, I must admit, that when I see ‘blue’, I know it’s you, my favorite health guru…
You looked wonderful this afternoon in the purple shirt; wonderful color and print choice for the tie; and tonight with Shannon, I really liked the softly bright sage green shirt with the matching tie. You have great taste in colors and you do a wonderful job in shopping for your wardrobe.
Don’t you have a salmon (or pinkish) color shirt? I think, over the years, I may have seen you in this color, or perhaps it was a ‘dream’. Either way, I adore you, whether in green or blue, as long as it’s you in good health and safe in your travels.
God bless you Andrew. Thank you for keeping us healthy and so well educated. I appreciate you and your hard work.
    Take care dear Friend…

  54. I agree with so many of the others Andrew, Brad, and George are very sharp looking gentlemen, however they have absolutely nothing on you. Thanks for the insight on the color choices of shirts, it did make me smile. No matter what color shirt it is, it is you that we all are inspired and enchanted by. Cheers =)

  55. Andrew,
you truly have the bless-good-healthy charisma personality. Whether you wear blue most of the time, you wear green polo-shirt, yellow, violet named what color I truly believe you radiates the healthy-glow, friendly and divine-aura too. You know you have the acronyms of (DBC). Smile with Charisma, like me too and the procaps vitamins family….

  56. Why would you even bother responding to an inquiry about a blue shirt. When I was talking on the phone with one of your reps, they stated you’re not in the office that often, maybe 4-6 times a year. If that’s true, who runs your business…and what are you doing in the meantime?

  57. Blue shirts, now that I think about it, you do wear alot of blue shirts. I guess I never noticed before because the information you were sharing was so interesting and so relevant. It is fascinating for me to hear you speak so passionately and intelligently about vitamins and how the human body performs. Blue is a sincere color, it represents nature, the sky and the ocean – so how appropriate for it to be your color of choice.

  58. Why am I not surprised. You are methodical with everything you do. That is why I’ve grown to trust you and love you. Please keep up your compulsive behavior to do everything the best you can. My health is in your hands. And thank you…you are doing a great job.

  59. Andrew, thanks for the explanation and the laugh! I thought it was something about people trusting someone who wears blue. Thanks for all your great products. I enjoy seeing your dogs and the remotes at your facility in Nevada. Keep up the good work!

  60. Yes, funny, as other have stated, and fits right in with who you are too, Andrew. The research into that, I mean. LOL. And you sure look good in blue on TV.
It is so interesting, informative – and fun, to watch your shows on HSN. I appreciate your integrity. If it has your name on it, I know I can trust what I am putting in my body. Thank you 🙂

  61. Andrew Andrew Andrew
    What is all the stew
    About you in blue?
    I think you "rocks"
    Clear to your socks!
So, it is my feeble attempt at poetry writing. What do you think?
I so enjoy watching you on HSN and learning from you. I loved the pics of your dogs watching you on TV. And I absolutely love all of your products. The best I have found, and I have been looking for very many years. Thank you for helping us to learn how to improve the quality of our lives.
    Connie in Vernal, Utah.
PS…Blue is my favorite color. 🙂

  62. I always wondered why you usually wore blue. But I didn’t know there was a blue shirt "controversy" — that’s hilarious!
Thank you for all the great vitamins …they are definitely feel-the-difference products. My aunt introduced me to Women’s Wellness years ago and now I have a cupboard filled with your vitamins. I also got my 80-yr. old dad taking them, and he tells me when he’s running out. Our pets take the Omega-3, with approval from our vet. I’m going to see if they can also take one of your glucosamine choices.
I learn so much from watching you on HSN. Thank you for all that you do and helping us to stay healthy. Oh, and blue is also my favorite color. 🙂

  63. People should pay more attention to your products instead of your shirts. You are the most best dressed man ever. Wear whatever color you want. They will look gorgeous.
LOVED Hayden & Lincoln watching you. They are beautiful. I have 2 senior rescued dachshunds. They use your Glucosomine–Chronditin.

  64. Thanks Andrew for this article on your blue shirts, I loved it!! I must say that your research paid off, because you always look so handsome every time you are on TV in your blue shirts, and your pink, purple or green. Also, thank you for all of your information you teach us each time you are on HSN. You are truly one in a million!!! I don’t know of anyone who has taught such valuable information to the viewers as you. God Bless you and keep the vitamins coming!
    I praise God for you.

  65. Hi Andrew, I like you so much and I am so grateful for your products that make me feel so great, the knowledge you impart to us, and your great sense of humor! I always thought you look great in blue and that it was just your favorite color! Thanks for sharing more insight about the guy that visits in my living room every so often when you are on HSN. Keep up the good work! We really appreciate all you do!
    Laura B

  66. Andrew it doesn’t matter what color shirt or ties you wear. As far as I’m concerned you can wear neon blue with poka dots.
Just keep on making those great products!!!

  67. Andrew REALLY NOW to me I wondered about it and really it does not matter because science or whatever reason I AM NOT ONLY A TRUE USER OF YOUR PRODUCTS AND HIGHEST RESPECT FOR YOU. Love your neatness and your EXPLAINING EACH OF THE PRODUCTS GOD BLESS YOU KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK P.S. I am recovering from a severe fall to which had head injury trauma docs could not believe after all the loss of blood and had received 2 units I HAD NOT ONE BROKEN BONE I CREDIT MY GREAT NUTRITION THANKS YOU SYLVIA

  68. The scientific study of color is true. Blue is a color to wear that makes a person more likable, wear green on a Thursday while requesting a raise, babies rooms should never be pink or yellow as these are irritating colors and make them more fussy, fast food establishment often use orange, red and yellow which also are irritating colors and can cause you to want to eat, white can be a sign of purity and also is a sign of self-focused personality. I think the sea green shirt on Thursday night was the best color choice yet. I don’t know the science for that specific color. But if I were to choose a meaning for sea green it would be a likely flourishing journey.
    God to You and Yours.

  69. George and Brad? Don’t they sell sell icecream, oh, wait. . . my mistake; that’s Ben and Jerry.
Who are these fellows to whom thou does refer?

  70. True blue! Blue is also a color that is considered to be trustworthy! I assumed you did your research, so I am not surprised at your reply.
I was taught to wear a nice navy blue for job interviews, back in the day. Since you have been so successful with your blue shirt, I hope others will take a hint and try to be more presentable. Maybe we can get some of these folks back to work and off the entitlement trough!

  71. Andrew, not that my opinion on this really matters, but I know you read these comments and I just wanted to make you smile for the day. I’d love to see you in navy BLUE… that would be HOT. 😉 Navy blue shirt with a dark tie would be fabulous on you! *grin*

  72. Andrew,
I have watched you for a long time and appreciate all of the knowledge you share about vitamins and overall health. The last few times I’ve watched you made reference to Political Issues. I do not think it is your place to spew your Polical views and think you should stay with what you do best which is make vitamins.
